Palazzo Medici Riccardi

Commissioned by Cosimo de’ Medici in the 1400s, this was a principal Medici family residence (except during a period of exile) until 1540, when a later Medici ruler moved to the Palazzo Vecchio. Some lesser Medici continued to live here until the palazzo was purchased by the Riccardi family in 1659. Currently, it is both a museum and the seat of the Metropolitan City of Florence.
