Cavtat Bay

We rented a putt-putt boat a couple of times to get out on the water and explore the coastline. There are several abandoned Soviet-era resorts right on the waterfront, as well as a compound that was apparently used by Tito, the first ruler of the former Yugoslavia, as a vacation home. These buildings appear to have been designed in the Brutalist Style, and they are empty, vandalized, ugly and creepy. It is tragic that this primo real estate is besmirched by this post-Cold War tableau of decay and neglect. The guy who rented us the boats told us that the Russian government has made claims on the land, but can’t afford to do anything with it, so nothing ever happens.
