Home of the Bayeux Tapestry

The museum that houses the Bayeux Tapestry had a fantastic David Hockney exhibit and film. Hockney, who is now in his 80s, is apparently a huge fan of the tapestry, and of Chinese scrolls, and he recently completed a project inspired by both called “The Arrival of Spring, Normandy 2020.” He spent the pandemic lockdown at his farm house in Normandy, where he made a series of drawings using an iPad that tells the story of the changing seasons. The digital drawings were then printed on paper. They are laid out like the Bayeux Tapestry, in a horizontal line that you stroll past to “see” the story. The museum in Bayeux is exhibiting a copy of the project, and we hope to see the original at some point. It is currently at the Art Institute of Chicago.
